Brilliant article! I've recently started using Claude for our meal prepping at home and I absolutely love it! A scheduled weekly task with recipes we like and no more overthinking of meals and shopping lists...
Love that! Deciding what to eat is literally the worst. I feel like meal planning is the “gateway use” for so many people, especially moms, and then it just snowballs from there.
Brilliant! I sometimes feel I have to hide my use of AI. But it's helped me so much on the life management side as an older neurodivergent woman who is trying to heal long-term nervous system dysregulation. Thank you, Nikki.
Hahaha! I love this article. I have nothing to add to this discussion other than of course AI is an accessibility tool for people with ADHD & other disabilities & no one should feel bad about using it unless they are outsourcing all of their own thinking to it. Your disclaimer at the end made me laugh out loud ❤️❤️❤️
AI has been a tremendous help in rumination and regulation for me. Not as therapist but for a way for me to externalize my thoughts, work through actively with my pre-frontal cortex what happen sub-cortically for most others on different perceptions someone may have had of a given situation which helps me tremendously to reduce cognitive load so that I can focus my own cognitive resources on the important regulation and showing up in the world as a healthy Autistic.
Specific prompts and resources. I am actively working on productizing it. One of my core pieces to this is my cognitive translation protocol framework as well (just published an essay introducing it).
Love love love this article and everything you said in it. And how you write and your personality and vibe and all of it.
It's funny, I'm observing myself being about read what you wrote without completely boiling over. I feel like that's progress.
Now I'm like, yeah, this is right. It's all right. And we can do something about it. Women can do something about it. This part of Substack that I'm in is the perfect women run this space, women are the bosses of AI, we're building cool stuff, we're uplifting our community, we're doing it in pink and through illustrations. It's amazing and beautiful, and only part of me is really dreading the day men come stomping in to destroy it all. (I'm trying to be optimistic here that we can keep our strength up and going.)
I want to help women learn how to use AI. And for me it's not just about providing better data to the AI or that it will help us rise up. Those are very very important, yes. But for me it's that I truly believe women and NDs and people of color will be the ones to take AI to the next level, to truly make it transformative to create things for the world and society that we actually need and not just for individual hyper-optimization.
Whew.
Thank you for writing this, it was awesome. You inspire me to write more and do more!
I love all of this! I get what you mean about feeling like it’s a little bubble. But I think what you’re doing is really important work right now. And what I said earlier about your projects showing how building AI can actually be fun is important too because if it’s fun, well that’s good in itself because we all need more fun, but it also makes it less intimidating. (Actually I should probably add this to my article, come to think of it).
😁 I just feel this openness and joy and excitement in my chest when I work with AI sometimes! And especially when I work with other people on it. Even when it's being dumb (sooo dumb), it's just funny.
And then I think about how I can actually take the time to have fun with it because AI literally just helped me build something that would have taken hours, days, weeks, or I wouldn't have been able to build ever. I have a reservoir of time to cash in on!
And that's how I wish people would approach AI. Enough with this scarcity stuff. I want to see what will open up!

Same! There are so many people that are anti-AI I felt compelled to hide it. But it’s so important to talk about!

I love that! Have you done this through a natural conversation where it learned you over time or did you give it specific prompts or resources?

That sounds exciting!
